For the Individual research project, students gather data on a topic of their choice, perform data analysis, and present data-supported findings in a written report. See the Data resources page for help on finding data to study. The second assignment for the project is a preliminary report. For the preliminary report, students give a progress update on their work. They’ll answer the following questions: What data have they found? What are the preliminary findings? What difficulties have they encountered? The preliminary report should be 5-8 pages. A sensible breakdown of the preliminary report would be: Statement of problem, purpose (~ 1 page) Description & review of data sources (~ 1 page) Discussion & review of preliminary analysis result (3 – ?? pages) Preliminary conclusions, comments on progress & problems (~1 page) Bibliography — APA style (doesn’t count towards page count, but put on separate page)
