For this assignment you will write a short paper in which you will compare the structures and functions of the mucosa linings only of the alimentary canal: esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine (Hint: there are four layers in the wall of the alimentary canal. You are required to write about “mucosa” only). Please be very specific and do not add/explain any information which is not asked.
In your descriptions, explain briefly how each organ’s mucosal lining structure is related to its function. The structure would include types of epithelium, specific cells, glands and their secretions, any folding or projections, etc. Functions would include what happens to the food in that organ.
