Accounting 101
Fall 2021 Semester
Periodical Project
Project Requirements
The project portion of our class will consist of reading and summarizing 3 articles from a periodical, – newspaper, magazine, or journal. It will be worth 20 points per article or a total of 60 points of your total grade.
You can select any article that is related to business, accounting or ethics. I would ask that you use a credible source such as the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Forbes Business Magazine, Bloomberg Businessweek, Time Magazine, Forbes Magazine, Fortune Magazine, Harvard Business Review, Barron’s, etc. You do not need to buy a magazine or newspaper. I would recommend using our library’s online database or website.
Format
Summarize your article in approximately 1 typed page, double-spaced. Please use a standard font such as Calibri, Ariel, or Times New Roman.
Your typed summary needs to be grammatically correct with no incomplete or run-on sentences. Your paragraphs should have topic sentences.
Please use your spell checker in MS Word to ensure there are no spelling errors.
List your source at the end of your paper.
Please use MLA format with page numbers if available.
If you use an online source, please include the URL link as well as the date you accessed your source.
Examples of how you should list your source using MLA technique as described by the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) are as follows:
A magazine or journal:
Author(s). “Title of Article.” Title of Periodical, Day Month Year, pages.
Poniewozik, James. “TV Makes a Too-Close Call.” Time, 20 Nov. 2000, pp. 70-71.
Buchman, Dana. “A Special Education.” Good Housekeeping, Mar. 2006, pp. 143-48.
Examples of a newspaper article:
Brubaker, Bill. “New Health Center Targets County’s Uninsured Patients.” Washington Post, 24 May 2007, p. LZ01.
Krugman, Andrew. “Fear of Eating.” New York Times, late ed., 21 May 2007, p. A1.
Dean, Cornelia. “Executive on a Mission: Saving the Planet.” The New York Times, 22 May 2007, www.nytimes.com/2007/05/22/science/earth/22ander.html?_r=0. Accessed 29 May 2019.
Example of a magazine or journal from an online source:
Bernstein, Mark. “10 Tips on Writing the Living Web.” A List Apart: For People Who Make Websites, 16 Aug. 2002, alistapart.com/article/writeliving. Accessed 4 May 2009.
