Organizational Service Project and Report, 4 to 5 pages (EXL assignment):
For this assignment, you must find a nonprofit organization (preferably off campus) and volunteer to help with an event, fundraising, services to clients, etc. There is a Google doc with a few opportunities I know are available. Please feel free to add other opportuntities.
Ten hours of volunteer work is required. The hours must be documented, but no signatures are required (See D2L Dropbox). You may do your volunteer hours with a group of students, but these hours cannot count for an internship or applied communication course. Online organizations or online volunteering will work as well if you’re social distancing due to COVID-19. Be sure to log your hours with dates and times so that you can add that info to the end of your report.
Report/Paper:
Include a title page. Give your paper a title, introduction, and use headings and subheadings to organize the paper. Please try to follow APA format as closely as possible.
Body: You do NOT have to organize your paper in this exact order.
What aspects of Classical, Human Relations, or Human Resources management did you observe?
What kind of socialization experiences did you have? What was it like assimilating into this organization? Exiting this organization?
How would you describe the communication networks you observed or experienced? Think about density, linkages, nodes, etc.
How would you describe the organizational culture? What overarching values seem to guide the organization in achieving its purpose? How do you know this, what did you observe?
How are decisions made in the organization? What styles of management and leadership did you observe?
How was communication technology used in this organization, if at all? Was it effective, was is necessary? Why or why not?
Tell us what is working well about this organization, and what needs to be improved. What would you change?
Conclusion:
What did you learn about yourself as a temporary member of this organization?
State your career goals, and apply what you learned from your experiences to those goals.
Add a log of your hours as a separate page at the end of your report with dates and times (signatures from an organizational rep are not required).
