Read the article in this unit to view examples of what this essay should contain. I will be grading this based on the material you read in the article, AND the eight specific things I have asked you to discuss in the essay. Remember, the focus of this plan is how you will be a leader in the future!
Your personal leadership plan MUST include phrases and sentences that reflect both who you are now and what you want your life to be about.
This plan is more than just one paragraph; it is an essay. (3 to 5 paragraphs 500+ words)
I will be grading this plan based the eight specific things I have asked you to discuss in this essay. This is NOT a list. To “discuss” means to write several sentences about the topic!
GO BE A LEADER……Remember, the focus of this final essay is how you plan to be a “leader” in the future. You will lose several points if you do not focus on “leadership”. HOPEFULLY THIS CLASS HAS INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A LEADER IN YOUR CAREER, COMMUNITY OR ON CAMPUS.
Your personal leadership plan MUST include a discussion of the following topics. Please try to discuss them in this order.
1. Your personal mission statement. This should be a one sentence statement with about 3 or 4 sentences elaborating on the statement. It can be your short opening paragraph. ( See the mission statement article included in the Resources and Materials section in this lesson.) 7pts
2. What is your current major? What is your career goal? What type of job do you expect to have after graduation. 7pts
3. Discuss THREE types of groups you want to lead? ( organizations, church, family, scouts, choir, your career, volunteer groups, Greeks, athletic, political etc.) 7 pts
4. If you think inclusion is important, discuss how you would practice “inclusion” as a leader. 7pts
5. Discuss at least three traits of a leader that you hope to possess? 7 pts
6. What positive impact or contributions do you want to make during your lifetime and to your community as a leader? 7pts
7. Who is a leader role model in your life who actually displays excellent leadership characteristics? Explain how they exemplify their leadership characteristics. Think of someone you actually know in your community, church, teacher, coach, family friend, peer, friend etc, but NOT your parents. 7pts
8. Give your essay a creative title and word count. 1 pt
This is more than just ONE paragraph; it is a 3 to 5 paragraphs ESSAY. It is NOT a listing activity.
Points may be deducted for poor grammar and not following directions.
