Write a paper that is at least 2 pages but not more than 2 ½ pages in length discussing Discretion in Law Enforcement (policing). Your paper is to include the content of at least one scholarly academic research article. You may include the content of a news or media article that would be in addition to the scholarly article requirement. All citations and references must be in the required APA format, to include the hyperlink where the specific material(s) can be accessed. NOTE: The entire article must be accessible and not just the abstract.
Issues to be discussed in the paper are at a minimum:
1) What are some ways that have been used to control police officer’s discretion? Provide at least one method used and give two examples. 2) In your opinion, does discretion in policing need to be controlled and if so, can it be? Explain why or why not.
3) Describe at least one discretionary action taken by police, other than using deadly force, that you would seek to control and why. Explain what step(s) you would take to minimize the decision-making process.
The assignment is to be prepared in a typed double spaced WORD format with 12 Times New Roman font with 1” margins. The header is to be single spaced and only contain the student’s name and title of the assignment as a header. Refer to Syllabus and examples in the File Tab for more instructions.
