Aim: The goal of the assignment is to apply your sociological knowledge to a social issue that
you care about.
Assignment: You will watch a feature-length documentary (at least 75 minutes) on a social issue
and write a 2–3-page response paper. The documentary should be about a social issue or
historical event. The paper will include a one paragraph summary of the film followed by a one paragraph reaction (critical engagement with how you now think about the issue presented). Then you will spend the next 2-4 paragraphs applying terms/concepts from the course to examples from the documentary. This should include a sentence summarizing the scene/issue in the movie (since of course I likely will not have seen it) and then a few sentences applying terms from the course. Similar to the reading response paper, you must use specific scenes/issues. If you use generic
language about the topic you will not do well.Formatting Guidelines
Format:
– Times New Roman font, size 12.
– One-inch margins on all sides.
– Double spaced text.
– Single spaced heading: Your name, date, course assignment ONLY.
– Write in paragraph form – no bullet points or strange formatting.
– There is no need for an introduction or conclusion. Get right into the paper.
