Gaming Jurisdiction Assignment
PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to review a gaming jurisdiction not discussed in the
book or in class. As a result of this assignment, students will be more familiar with
gaming jurisdictions beyond those discussed in the book and will be able to investigate a
jurisdiction that personally interests them.
This assignment is intended to integrate the material learned in class in module 1.
Evaluating other gaming jurisdictions allows the students to compare and contrast how
different jurisdictions are set up and how they tax and monitor their operators.
Submissions are expected to resemble those presented to an upper level manager in a
gaming operation and will give students an opportunity to apply written communication
skills.
TASK
Select a gaming jurisdiction other than Nevada or New Jersey. This can be a US or
international jurisdiction. If you want to choose a jurisdiction that has set up their
gaming commission and regulations already but does not have their first casino open, that
is sufficient. It is up to you to make sure all required questions can be answered for the
jurisdiction selected.
You are required to answer the following questions in Word.
1. (20 points) What is the structure of the jurisdiction’s gaming commission/control
board? Include information such as number of people, reporting structure, name,
selection process, etc.
2. (10 points) What types of casino games are allowed? Are there different gaming
licenses and if so, describe them.
3. (10 points) How is gaming revenue (net or gross) determined? The revenue line
items you should be determining is the line item the jurisdiction taxes. Some use
net and some gross. If this varies by type of game include each definition/formula.
4. (20 points) What fees are charged to operate the casino? Include all fees, not just
those on gaming revenue.
5. (10 points) What is the gaming tax percentage per each type of casino game?
6. (10 points) How are gaming taxes distributed to state funds?
7. (10 points) Describe how the commission addresses/plans to address problem
gambling
8.(10 points)If your market is currently operating, give a summary of tax revenues
generated over the last 5 years. If you have a new market, describe the anticipated
revenue generation from the new casino operators.
CRITERIA
Your grade will be based on the points listed above next to each question.
Unprofessional work such as not formatted, many misspellings, etc. will not be graded
and will receive a zero. In industry we consider unprofessional work a sign that you do
not take the work seriously and that the analysis is rushed through and not thoroughly
thought out and many if not all readers will discard what you have written.
This assignment is required to be done in Word and any other format will result in a zero.
Each question is to be responded to separately. This assignment must be turned in on
WebCampus before the due date and time listed on the syllabus.
