Instructions for the Final Paper:
At the end of the semester, you’ll have the opportunity to write a final paper on a topic of your choice. In your paper, you should take a position on a philosophical issue related to sport, and argue persuasively for why your position is correct. Your paper should be at about 1,500 words in length and have at least 5 research references. (You are free to cite our class readings or any other relevant sources you find).
*Thesis statement:
*Philosophical paper that argues an issue persuasively about why athletes should be able to make political demonstrations during sporting events and how racial biases play a role in this issue of social change.
* 5 articles to draw examples and information to actively argue your thesis are listed below:
– “Denver Broncos players push governor on prison policy: “Football is temporary. Being a Black man in America is permanent.”” – Burness (Denver Post)

Since it is likely that some of you have not written a philosophy paper before, I will be providing additional resources to help with this process. At the beginning of the 6th module (11/9), there will be a special lecture video on how to write a philosophy paper, with an accompanying handout for your reference. You are also welcome, but not required, to submit a first draft of your paper by 12/7. This gives me an opportunity to provide you with helpful feedback before the paper is due on the last day of class (12/14).
The final paper is worth 50 points. When grading the final paper, I am looking for: a clear statement of your thesis (10 points), valid argument structure throughout the paper (10 points), responses to objections (10 points), at least 5 appropriate citations (10 points), and length of about 1,500 words (10 points).
