In this essay, you will develop a previously written response papers into a longer (1500 word) discussion essay.
The essay should have a clear thesis, that is, a main point that you will advance and support in your discussion. Use the additional space to elaborate your analysis, add support to your argument, consider complications, other perspectives, or potential objections, etc.
The paper can take one of a number of forms—you can write a more interpretative essay that focuses on critically analyzing an idea from a text, or you can use ideas from the text to develop an argument of your own. Your paper can take one of the following forms:
Critical discussion (based on a careful reconstruction, assess the strengths and weaknesses of an argument or idea from the text)
Debate (critically compare and contrast ideas or arguments from different readings)
Application (apply an argument or concept from the text to a case or example of your own in a way that shows its significance, usefulness, and/or difficulties)
Develop an argument of your own (in conversation with one or more readings and its idea, develop and support an idea or argument of your own)
Building on your previous response paper does not mean that simply copying and pasting the text and adding a few more paragraphs. You can and should use ideas from the response papers, but rewrite the paper in a way that helps you argue for your thesis effectively.
I have provided the response paper I have written in a word document that you should develop further. The reading it was based on alongside a few other readings you could use. Please do not make a vague argument and follow the listed instructions.
