BIOLOGICAL PROCESSES/PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Information: Biological processes produce changes in an individual’s physical nature. Genes inherited
from parents, brain development, height, weight, nutrition, exercise, hormonal changes of puberty, and
even health decline are all examples of biological processes that affect development.
Directions: For this distinctive paper on biological processes/physical development, the student will
write about anything related to their personal biological processes/physical development, and reflective
of their personal “dash” – their life. That is, the student will write about themselves, and their human
growth and development, respective of their physical development only. The focus of this paper is
physical development. All domains are intertwined, but this paper should be about physical
development, specifically.
The student’s paper must reflect that they fully understand the concept of biological processes/physical
development and relative to their lifespan. That is, as yourself, “If I was telling my life story on my
physical development, how might that story go, and/or how would I want it to read”? What are/have
been the “hallmarks” of my physical development?
Note: The paper can include future/strategies to address physical development, e.g., personal
fitness goals, planned diet changes, etc. Again, the paper must flow and focus on physical
development. See the grading rubric for scoring criteria.
Examples of paper “themes”:
1) One could easily satisfy this writing requirement, by writing on the “early years”, e.g., when/how
they were born (born on time/premature, height/weight at birth and how that transformed over
the years, e.g., height/weight now, easy to gain weight/lose weight, etc.).
This theme could include information re: genetic inheritance, e.g., the blue eyes are from my
daddy, as is the naturally curly hair. Ditto for the stature, e.g., 5’4, and with a “solid” build, all
seeming to have originated from my father’s genes, as my mother was very tall and thin, etc., etc.
2) One could also write about all things post puberty, including the physical changes the body
underwent, inclusive of pregnancies, changes in athletic involvement, etc.
3) One could also focus on athletic physical development, e.g., participated in sports, or not, and the
impact on physical development.
I am the only one who will read this paper. Any/all in this paper is to be about physical
development/biological changes. Information should not include super personal information, unless the
student simply wants to write about it. Again, I am the only one who will read the paper.
The student’s paper needs to reflect that they know what biological processes, and/or physical
development is, and how it occurs across the lifespan – their lifespan. Note: You cannot get the
content of this paper wrong, as you are the subject matter expert given the paper is to be written
about you.

PAPER SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
DIRECTIONS: SETTING UP & SUBMITTING THE PAPER IN APA FORMAT
Each paper will be written in APA format. APA formatting is a formal “standard” writing style that is
used in the Social Science discipline of study, which developmental psychology is. The standard is simply
an established and approved “format” for writing papers (so everyone isn’t doing their own thing). It is
required at the collegiate level.
The paper(s) must include:
1. A title page (in APA format – see section below re: “APA Formatting”).
• See this link for a sample paper/title page. General Format – Purdue OWL® – Purdue
University
• Simply mimic the title page contained in the sample paper
• Title of this paper: Dash Self-Reflection Paper: Physical Development
• Department of Psychology
• You should know the course name and number, and the rest that follows
2. No running head is required, or desired. Title page, with the next page being the paper is the flow.
3. One page (minimum) – two pages (maximum) in length, double-spaced and writing using
paragraphs.
• Double-spaced pages
• Use paragraphs
• DO NOT submit single-spaced, and without paragraphs
4. Times New Roman, 12 pt. font with one-inch margins on each side.
• Please do not adjust the margins or font to make the paper “appear” to be meet the length
requirement. I catch this, and if done, grading will occur in proportion to what the student
has submitted. Ex.: If you write half of the paper, grading occurs at half value for all criteria.
5. Submit/upload in Word or word-processing software format. NO PDFs.
