select one prominent pastor-theologian from church history (that is, he is dead)

select one prominent pastor-theologian from church history (that is, he is dead) as a possible “historical mentor.” You should select a mentor based on the value that a particular pastor-theologian has for your life/ministry setting and the significance of that pastor-theologian in your theological tradition. Possible mentors would include, but certainly not be limited to, Augustine, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Jonathan Edwards, John Wesley, Richard Baxter, and Martyn Lloyd-Jones.
You will submit a journal of your readings and reflections from your “historical mentor” at the end of the course. Your journal should show consistent and thoughtful interaction with the mentor, so you should aim to write 2-3 brief journal entries each week reflecting on your reading. While your entries do not have to follow a particular format, the list below should help guide your entries.
What does this reading tell me about his life?
What theological issues do you think are necessary for understanding his ministry?
What are the strengths and weaknesses of his overall approach to theology and ministry?
Why do you think this pastor-theologian would make a good mentor for you in your particular life and ministry setting?
