Week 4 Discussion: A Comparison of State Systems
Instructions:
The Constitution and Supreme Court decisions dictate that certain things be done certain ways in all courts in all states. An example of this is the right against unreasonable searches and seizures under the 4th amendment. This is a constant regardless of the state or the court. Having said that, there are still quite a few differences in how courts are structured, the required number of jurors and whether a guilty verdict has to be unanimous or not from state to state.
In your initial post, do the following:
Pick two states to do a comparison of their court systems. The two states should have obvious differences to allow for discussion.
Discuss the similarities and differences of the two chosen states.
Respond to the following: Which do you prefer and why? Would you prefer one over the other if you were the one accused of a crime and why? What would you like to see changed about either state?
