The purpose of this assignment is to apply a nursing theory to practice. Using the poster template provided, you will use one of the clinical scenarios provided and choose a middle range theory that might be useful to describe or explain the situation.  Identify at least two different middle range theories that might apply to the case and select one to use.  Provide a brief description of the theory. The concepts of the theory should be matched to the situation and evident in the real world.  Relationships between concepts and theories should be explained as these are depicted in the scenario. In addition, you should describe possible outcomes of the situation, using the selected theory to make these predictions.
Case Study:
Mr. Sorensen is a 48 year old widow. His second wife of 15 years, Martha, recently died of lymphoma. Martha had been ill for about fourteen months and the treatments for her lymphoma had been unsuccessful.  Mrs. Sorenson’s last few days of her life had been spent in the hospital with her husband by her side constantly.  Mrs. Sorenson died in her sleep and it appeared to everyone involved that her last several days were comfortable.
    Mr. Sorenson has three children from his first marriage, but none from his second marriage.  His children came to the memorial service, but then departed to their homes shortly after the service.  When Mr. Sorenson’s son, William, returned to visit two months after the memorial service, he noticed Mr. Sorenson very withdrawn. William also discovered that Mr. Sorenson rarely ventured out of the house, and had markedly diminished his contact with previously close friends and neighbors.
