Before you begin the assignment
Based on class lectures, what are some best practices and rules regarding survey organization and survey questions. List them and think forward to your own survey assignment for SOCI 301.
Let’s examine the survey now.
What information should the introduction have? Does the belonging survey check the boxes? Anything that doesn’t work or does work about the wording and organization of the introduction?
What is the reasoning behind the animal photos? Did the strategy work?
What is the intent of the researchers in creating the various sub sections? Did it work for you as a respondent? Were the concepts well operationalized in terms of the measures included?
In the “Work Demands” or “Family Demands” sections, are the statements different or do they mean the same? Were they easy to answer?
Do questions within the sub sections follow a logical order? Is the wording consistent? Do they measure what they are intended to measure, i.e., do the survey question have measurement validity?
What worked in the overall survey, i.e., met the best practices list that you created in point 1?
What are some critiques that you, as a respondent as well as SOCI 301 student, have regarding the survey. Be specific. This will not be shared with anyone.
