The focus of the research paper is on an area of student interest within criminological theory. It must be either applied or theoretical. If applied, it should apply an area of theory to “the real world.” If theoretical, it should either be a critique, a literature review, or a synthesis of a criminological theory or related theories, but it cannot simply be a review).
