The area I would like to focus on for the research paper is conflict theory. The focus will be on today’s power elite in the United States and how their criminal actions affect the rest of society. It needs to be synthesize between the work of C. Wright Mills, Marc Pilisuk, and others.

The focus of the research paper is on an area of student interest within criminological theory. It must be either applied or theoretical. If applied, it should apply an area of theory to “the real world.” If theoretical, it should either be a critique, a literature review, or a synthesis of a criminological theory or related theories, but it cannot simply be a review). Alternative options can be negotiated with approval of your professor, but not after October 23rd.
• LENGTH (30 max points): 12-15 pages. This includes the title page and reference
page(s), both of which are required and should follow APA formatting.
• SOURCING (20 max points): Research papers must include both APA in-text citations (where appropriate for quotations and paraphrasing) and APA references. Also, a minimum of 10 scholarly sources should be used. Most of your sources should include primary source material (e.g. speeches, interviews, public debates, letters or notes from theorists), peer reviewed journal articles, non-fiction books, encyclopedias, newspaper articles or editorials, textbooks, or non-commercial websites featuring scholarly information (e.g. .edu, .mil, .gov). “Pop” online articles or other short online news articles should be kept to a minimum. Do not use Wikipedia, Reddit, Quora, answers.com or similar sites as these will not be counted toward your 10 required sources.
