Science Misconception WebQuest Assignment Descriiption
Purpose: This assignment will provide you with an opportunity to choose a common science misconception for your grade level and design a WebQuest to teach the correct science content.
Task: To complete this assignment your lesson must address appropriate instructional levels, interests, and needs of diverse learners. You will present your WebQuest in class. As you begin planning you will want to consider the following:
References at least 5 (full citation in APA).
Purpose/Rationale – Provide detail on the purpose and rationale of your webquest. Why are you teaching a particular science concept using a WebQuest as a method of teaching?
Behavioral Objectives – Make sure that you include behavioral objectives/target(s) that are appropriate in number and match your activities and your assessment. Also, include Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) or Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
Engage Learners – Plan an engaging and creative webquest that promotes higher order thinking. Your quest must address appropriate instructional levels, interests, and needs of diverse learners and target a science misconception.
Grammar – Make sure to cite the information for your correct science. You need at least 5 references correctly cited in APA.
PowerPoint – Make sure that you have an appropriate amount of information on each slide, good color contrast, links to website (do not just link from the URL- use a button or picture), pictures, etc. You must include all needed materials (worksheets, rubrics, etc.).

There are numerous websites that talk about science misconceptions, as well as numerous links to them in NSTA.
Criteria for Success:
References include the web links within your presentation, along with those used to verify the correct science included within your presentation. References need biographic information.
Your webquest needs a hook or story line to get students engaged and excited about completing the webquest.
Use a photo or button to link to websites within your presentation (do not just link from the URL- use a button or picture), pictures.
Webquests are not appropriate for grade K or even grade one unless the slides are read to the students and the links they go to are videos.
Do not make a webquest for a topic that is better taught with hands-on investigations.
Read through the rubric to make sure you have completed all required tasks and components as described within the rubric.
