Please write in tone of college student .
For this assignment, choose an elementary school textbook to review and evaluate. You should utilize your learning of bias in child development research and the history of (and current) institutional racism in elementary schools as a lens through which to review the text (SLO 2 and SLO 8). Then write a critique in the style of a book review that discusses the extent to which one marginalized group (e.g., African American, Native American) culture, experiences, history, values, etc. are present or absent in the text. This enables you to discuss the contributions to US society of at least one group that has experienced racism and how these contributions compare with or relate to the contributions made by other groups (SLO 7).
The assignment will be evaluated based upon:
Detailed review and evaluation of the chosen text
Ability to critique text utilizing evidence and clear background knowledge
Critique shows ability to write effectively for given purpose.
Your textbook critique should be a minimum of 4 pages (1000 words) in length.
Where do I find a textbook?
For your upcoming textbook critique, you are welcome to find a textbook to use on your own (feel like paying your former elementary school teachers a visit?) or you can try this link: http://textbooks.wmisd.org/getacopy.html
This information was provided by our subject librarian:
“In lieu of physical textbooks, I recommended some other sources to your student, starting with the education resources offered through the Michigan eLibrary (MeL): https://mel.org/libraries/school. For example, there’s the eBook K-8 Collection in which students could search for books on racism, prejudice, social justice, etc.
There are also many repositories for OER (Open Educational Sources). Though OER textbooks tend to be more for high school and college-aged students, there may be books written for younger readers. See https://libguides.cmich.edu/OER/finding for links to some of those repositories.”
