Please read all these chapters for this two books :Trauma and Recovery by (Herman) and Treatment of Complex Trauma by (Courtois and Ford)
Then answer the following questions:
1) Diversity critique/response of trauma course learning:
ACES does not include IPV and Sexual or other Human trafficking or DEI considerations such as racial trauma, LGBTQIA+ related oppression, migration related trauma, stigmatization and discrimination related to disability, etc. The Herman (1992|2015) text also uses gendered language (i.e., female victims/male perpetrators) and also does not adequately address trauma related to oppression.
What are some of your thoughts about these and/or other adverse childhood experiences or trauma?
What are some intersectionality issues that should be considered in trauma assessment and intervention?
How does your own social location (intersecting diverse identities) influence your response to the material?
Why do you think that it is important to utilize a social justice approach in trauma assessment and intervention?
2) Self of therapist reaction
What sections/chapters/specific topics in the Herman (1992|2015) text affected you most (personally in the context of your own experience, and/or as a therapist in the context of the work you have done with clients)? What were the responses?
What are some common potential areas of countertransference that therapists might experience when working with clients who have some type of trauma? In this context what is meant by post-traumatic growth?
What is your plan for self-care and burnout-prevention to help manage any compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma (VT) or re-traumatization that you may encounter in your work as a therapist?
Why is it considered ethical care for therapists to manage burnout, compassion fatigue, and VT?
3) Resiliency
Tell and share a story about resiliency in the face of adversity. Please use other people’s experiences or you can use stories from fictional literature or movies. To maintain your safety, please do not share a personal story.
How might this story of resiliency inform your work as a therapist?
4) Summary
Provide a succinct summary of how this course and the material covered impacted your understanding of trauma and your views about the role of the therapist in crisis intervention and trauma treatment
