Organizational culture is the numerous beliefs and values exhibited by a group of individuals (Healy, 2017). In recent years, increasing emphasis has been placed on the need to change organizational culture in order to improve healthcare performance. However, the precise function of organizational culture in healthcare policy often remains underspecified and the desirability and feasibility of strategies to be adopted have been called into question (Parmelli, Flodgren, Beyer, Baillie, Schaafsma, & Eccles, 2011). Culture develops over a long period of time which is why it can be so challenging to change. We will explore the concepts in Chapter 7 to explore how we create lasting cultural change.
