PURPOSE:
To create a scholarly paper that is based an interview with a nurse leader (nurse manager, or chief nursing officer). The paper is designed to assist the student in correlating the content from class to professional clinical practice. A major portion of the assignment is to compare the responses of the nurse leader with the theory presented in class, in the required
readings, and within professional journal articles.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes.
1. Integrate knowledge of liberal education (humanities, mathematics, social sciences, and
natural sciences) in making nursing leadership judgements in diverse healthcare settings.
2. Recognize nursing leadership skills, quality improvement projects, and patient safety
initiatives that impact quality health care.
3. Demonstrate ability to participate in basic nursing research by sharing evidence – based
nursing practices.
4. Identify impacts of information technologies in coordinating patient care and enhancing
organizational communication.
5. Demonstrate basic knowledge of healthcare policy, strategic planning, and fiscal planning in
healthcare settings.
6. Incorporate a commitment to professional development, lifelong learning, and professional
values, including legal and ethical aspects into the practice of nursing.
7. Understand one’s role in nursing leadership with an awareness of legal issues, ethical
principles, organizational communication and structure, strategic and fiscal planning,
decision-making strategies, effective conflict resolution, and healthcare policy

DIRECTIONS:
a. Create a scholarly paper using the provided template.-refer to interviewed manager by initials only when writing
b. The format for this paper will follow the Publication manual of APA 7th edition.
c. The paper is to be no longer than 15 pages in length excluding the Title page and
Reference page – be sure to use the entire 15 pages
d. Content that exceeds 15 pages will not be graded
e. Decrease the number of direct quotes used as the use of direct quotes instead of
paraphrasing decreases the level of critical thinking.
