The purpose of this assignment is to prepare you for questions about your background in an interview situation. You only have a few minutes to convey your thoughts to the employer. Think of this assignment as a method of putting your concise thoughts together to make a good impression when a potential employer ask you questions about your background. Analyze your experiences to uncover deeper meaning affecting your life/career goals. Preparing for these types of questions will pay off in numerous ways in the future.
Your Autobiography should include the following sub-headers:
a) Family Experience
Consider experiences and activities from childhood and how they have affected your life/career choices. How have work roles of your family members influenced the way you think about a career? You might want to focus on where you lived, immediate and extended family member relationships, ethnic heritage, gender, and family activities.
b) Educational Experience
You might want to focus on favorite subjects or activities in school, as well as important teachers, organizations, and achievements that have influenced your life/career.
c) Work Experience
Recall aspects of your working experiences that have had the most impact on you. Remember that the definition of “work” includes unpaid, volunteer experiences. You might want to focus on relationships with supervisors or peers, the nature of the work organizations, the work activities or projects (what you did and did not like about them), or trends in your work experience. Are you seeking new work experiences?
d) Current Life/Career Goals
Identify three of your current life/career goals or aspirations. Explain how your family, education and work experiences are related to each of your goals. If your goals about education and occupation are currently uncertain, try to project 5-10 years into the future and focus on what you will have accomplished, what matters to your, and how you want to be viewed by others.Microsoft word document.
