Instructions
Working with clients in human services organizations can sometimes involve ethical dilemmas related to bureaucratic constraints and agency policies. These constraints may present conflicts that limit professional workers’ objectives to assist their clients. To examine this issue further, you will reflect on specific ethical issues involving child maltreatment, foster care entry, and providing child protection.
You will begin by reading the peer-reviewed academic journal article, “Exploring Policy Implications of Ethics of Care and Justice in Care Work and Human Services Organizations” (located in FSCJ’s Learning Commons Library). You will then summarize the main findings of this research article in two pages (double-spaced) and reflect on what you read in two pages (double-spaced). Be sure to apply some of the related concepts and ideas you have learned in the text, describing how the journal article connects to the course and how you could adapt your helping strategies when working with vulnerable children. In addition to discussing key terms and ideas, you will point out the methodological and theoretical strengths and weaknesses you can identify in the research article.
To promote critical thinking, you will create one discussion question (place this question at the end of the last page of your reflection paper). This discussion question can be general such as a basic question about a topic in the article that stood out to you or you can ask a question that connects the article’s topic to current events. Alternatively, you can connect the topic to something else you have read about in this course or another human services-related course. Students will receive feedback in the comments section in Canvas. The feedback will be based on the grading rubric for this assignment.
