For this discussion we are examining inequalities based on our cultural construction of gender. You may choose which question to respond to for your initial post, just make sure to indicate which question you’re answering in your response.
1- Provide your reactions to watching Kimberle Crenshaw’s TED Talk “The urgency of intersectionality.” According to Crenshaw, why is taking an intersectional approach so important? Can you think of any other instances where an intersectional lens is crucial to fully ‘seeing’ or understanding a particular issue or social problem?
2- Having read about gender inequality in the workplace in Chapter 4, consider the following questions: For men, how does their gender serve as a resource in ways that benefit them in their work experiences? For women, how does their gender serve as a disadvantage in their work experiences?

3- What are some consequences of the sexual objectification and pornification of women’s bodies in the media? How do you think these trends might impact how women are viewed and treated in broader society? In the workplace? In government and politics? In their intimate relationships?

1- Be sure to review the discussion of moral panics in chapter 5 of our textbook. What is a moral panic? How can moral panics affect social norms? What current moral panics related to sex/sexuality/gender do you see playing out in society today? What factors do you think have perpetuated this moral panic?
2- Were sexualities addressed in your high school classes? Was same-gender sexuality talked about in your high school classes? Explain. How did your high school deal with bullying? Did your high school have a support organization for LGBTQ+ students?
3- How visible are LGBTQ+ individuals and same-gender couples in the media you consume? Briefly describe this media and the prominence, or lack thereof, of LGBTQ+ people and same-gender couples. How does visibility in the media relate to acceptance in society?
