deliverables include a final report (limited to 10 pages-excluding the cover page and references)
and a reflective essay (limited to 2 pages)
The final report must include following sections:
– Cover page
– Abstract: a brief summary of the motivation, approach and findings.
– Introduction: concept and observations (include systems that you initially considered and how did you
select the final system), literature review (if applicable), brief summary of the presented analysis.
– Main body: problem statement, system description, calculations and design/analysis approach, etc.
– Results and Discussions: present the results from your analysis (system performance evaluation,
cost estimate, etc.) and discuss the findings thoroughly.
– Conclusions
– References
– The report must be: single column, double space, Times New Roman (size not smaller than 11).
Tables and figures must have proper captions.
– Before submitting the report, make sure it is well-written and free of language errors.
The reflective essay must be a 1-2 pages document to discuss:
– How did the project help you to develop curiosity towards systems in your surrounding?
-In performing the project, you likely had to integrate information from various sources
and make connections between those to effectively design and assess the system. Briefly
discuss this process.
– The outcome of your work is a system that likely results in significant energy savings/
improved performance. Discuss the value and cost of the system to different stakeholders
(end user/manufacturer/society/etc.)
The topic is:
Recovering waste heat is one of the primary functions of heat exchangers. Consider systems that
you are working with on daily basis, it could be at home, in your car or at work! Identify a “heat
recovery” opportunity, where application of heat exchanger can result in energy and cost savings.
Evaluate potential savings, design/select an appropriate heat exchanger for your application and
discuss technical and economical feasibility of the project.
And I chose my topic as recovering waste heat from industrial ovens used in the food processing industry
