Chapter 8 Exercise: To better understand how organizational behavior impacts the field of public administration, you are to review the Chapter 8: CASE STUDY Organizations and “Sustainable Behavior” and answer the following questions which will be your initial post for Week 5. You post must be at least 300 words in length.
Why did you choose the design alternative you preferred? In your thinking about organizations—what makes your organizational model “better,” that is, more effective?
How will your new “element” interact with the rest of the organization? Think of this in terms of hierarchy at three levels:
■ with the chief executive and her or his staff
■ with the leadership team (other unit heads)
■ with the employees working in field units or functions
How do you think your new element will change your organization’s behaviors (and with it values) and sensitivity about sustainability and its importance? Do you think changed behaviors at work will translate into behaviors at other places?
How would you measure change—what metrics (engagement, morale, job satisfaction, organizational respect) can be used to assess whether your new structure is producing results in terms of organizational behaviors and leadership in sustainability? For comparison, here are the EPA’s carbon metrics for the US overall in Figure 8.5.
