Assignment Content:
This assignment will fulfill the following KRDNs requirements in this course:
• KRDN 1.1 Demonstrate how to locate, interpret, evaluate and use professional literature to make ethical, evidence-based practice decisions.
• KRDN 1.2 Select and use appropriate current information technologies to locate and apply evidence-based guidelines and protocols.
• In this assignment, you will use current information technologies to locate a professional literature dealing with adolescent females on one or more of the macronutrients (energy nutrients).
Select a research article dealing with adolescent females on one or more of the energy nutrients: The article must be an original research study (an experiment) dealing with adolescent females on one or more of the energy nutrients (carbohydrate, fats, or protein). [Go to library and input keywords. Some articles need 2-3 days from Interlibrary loan (free)].
1. The article must be from a professional literature (peer-reviewed journal articles; Not from a magazine or news or online blogs) dealing with adolescent females on one or more of the energy nutrients.
2. Interpret and evaluate the study, then describe what ethical, evidence-based practice decisions you have learned/will use under this condition. (This is for healthcare professionals.)
3. Use conversational language to interpret this article to consumers (This is for consumers).
Format: Two paragraphs totaling 500-600 words; Times New Roman; 12-point font; double spaced. Catchy title. Subheadings. Tables and figures okay, but not required. No within-text citations. Reference (the original research article) at the end using APA format.
Writing style:
First paragraph: Interpret and evaluate the study, then describe what ethical, evidence-based practice decisions you have learned or will use under this condition, and any guidelines and protocols learned from this study. (This is for healthcare professionals.)
Second paragraph: (This is for consumers). Use conversational language to interpret this article to consumers. When writing for the general public, use personal pronouns, use lots of examples, tell stories to make points. Don’t use big words when smaller ones will do (“use” versus “utilize”; “make” versus “construct” or “fabricate”). Avoid long sentences and extra words (“this was done in order to complete….” versus “we did this to finish….”). Avoid the passive voice. Use short, simple sentences. However, the challenge is keeping the information complete and factual while keeping it simple!
Reference: Cite the reference (the article you selected), using APA format. Pay attention to detail.
Plagiarism: There is much information written for consumers about nutrition – some evidence-based and some totally unreliable. I want you to use your own words to talk about your topic based on evidence you find in the research article. I urge you not to read what others have written for the consumer on your topic. Read your text and other information written for the professional. Then interpret the information according to your understanding. I will use SafeAssign in Blackboard to detect plagiarism. (Must be below 25%)
