1. Have you ever had a dream that you were convinced
was true? Briefly explain the dream. Explain/describe
as precisely as possible what made it seem so “true?”
2. Now, play Descartes’s game for a moment and
imagine there iS an all-powerful force that has nothing
better to do than to deceive YOU. Give this force a
name and imagine it, like some puppeteer pulling the
strings behind the scenes, constantly arranging things so
that your beliefs are false even though you think they are
true. Now ask yourself, “Is there ANYTHING about
which this wicked force could NOT deceive me? If there
is anything you can think of, what is it?
