This assignment will focus on composite measures, including indexes and scales. Please make sure to read the section covering indexes and scales in chapter six (maybe look at the Power Points too) as well as to look over the quiz five study guide section on indexes and scales, before you begin this assignment. Using the examples on page 162 of the textbook or slides six and seven of the chapter six Power Point in Moodle, construct either an index or a scale with a minimum of six indicators for an index, or four indicators for a scale. Ideally, your indicators would pertain to the social concept that is connected to the research question that you have been working on so far this semester (e.g. what are some of the indicators of shooter violence, or the pay gap, etc.). However, if this assignment doesn’t fit in with your research question or if your research approach would be more qualitative, then feel free to creator an index or chart that is not related to your research question. You can create your index or scale by using tables in Microsoft Word, Excel, or some other spreadsheet software. Lastly, make sure to include a description under your chart explaining what your index/scale is measuring and how many points a research subject might receive for each indicator they would select for an index, or the degree to which each indicator would contribute to the social concept being measured in a scale.
