Students will find both descriptive (at least 2 sources) and
inferential statistics (at least 2 sources) connected to their social problem. The sources used must be official, academic in nature, and developed through a rigorous methodology. These statistics must prove that the social problem is indeed a problem, the severity of the problem, and the impact of the problem on individuals, families, groups, and society at-large
2. Be clear on when you are extracting descriptive statistics versus inferential statistics. These are different numbers that do different things. Demonstrate your knowledge of this.
3. Let the stats lead the discussion. The numbers should be noticeable, not just your words about those numbers.
4. Do not copy and paste from articles. Take the numbers from the articles and make your own sentences about the social problem. Try to remember class discussions, where we practiced this.
5. Data extraction will be from the results/discussion section for your inferential analyses. The descriptive statistics will be found largely in the literature review section.
6. Cite your articles when you pull information from them.
7. Write this as if the reader knows nothing. Make it easy for them to understand the issue. Convince them that it is an issue through the statistics.
