Discussion 1
The Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Program is a component of our continuous efforts to reorganize Medicare’s payment schedule so that providers are compensated for the caliber of therapy they deliver. Through this scheme, hospitals get adjustments to their Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) reimbursements based on the caliber of care they provide. (Harrington, 2021) Hospital Value-Based Purchasing is a medical service payment model that rewards healthcare providers financially for their performance or the standard of care they provide to their patients. Because the focus has shifted from the number to the quality of services rendered, patients are happier. Because this approach encourages service providers, there has been an increase in the coordination of Medicare providers to give better healthcare services and avoid diseases. (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, 2023)
The pathology, laboratory, radiology, and other auxiliary care service providers will only profit if they contribute to the process of illness diagnosis and patient treatment. Due to the need for all metrics to be disclosed publicly, as opposed to previously, the performance-based model has increased openness in the medical treatment process. The patient-caregiver experience, safety, clinical care, efficiency, and cost reduction are the key performance indicators for these institutions. Hospitals are evaluated based on their accomplishments and improvements. Both achievement and improvement are gauged by comparing the hospital’s results to those of other hospitals during the baseline period. (Harrington, 2021)
The quality of care has been assessed for performance based on four categories:
The outcome of treatment.
Patient experience.
Medical process during diagnosis and treatment.
The environmental and physical facility in the Medicare facility.
