As the HIM Coding Supervisor, you would like to migrate your in-house coding to home-based. In anticipation of concerns that IT might raise about remote access, you have been evaluating best practices for remote security. Your recommendation would be to provide each coder with a laptop for remote access to your organization’s information. Submit at least two pages (double-spaced) covering the following: a. Explain why this is your choice in view of HIPAA security provisions and b. Make at least 4 other recommendations that would control remote access and promote security.
As the HIM Coding Supervisor, you have outsourced your emergency room coding to an independent contractor. Your IT department is requiring a two-factor authentication method for that contractor as an added layer of security. Evaluate the options that you have (use of tokens, biometrics, or telephone call back) and submit a one page (double spaced) document making a method recommendation supporting your choice.
