The safe drinking water act regulates drinking water to be safe for residents of the United States. Unfortunately the regulation doesn’t always work out. In the video, Dirty Water: Danger From the Tap they showed us areas of the U.S. where water was not up to standard. If pipes and fixtures in the home are causing contaminants in the water, who should be responsible for replacing these? Do you think that responsibility should be different based on income? Explain your reasoning.
If a municipality cannot afford to manage healthy drinking water standards due to pollutants existing in the water from other activities or due to aging infrastructure of the water system, who should be responsible for residents to get clean water? How should they provide the water? Who should pay the costs? Explain your reasoning.
Bottled water is not regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act but is regulated by the United States Food and Drug Administration. The U.S. FDA expects water to be within the SDWA standards. Occurrences of contamination and outbreaks still occur from bottled water. Given this information and any other information you may find, what concerns due you have about bottled water? Do you think its a positive or negative consumer item? Explain your reasonings.
