Group 6 (Interrupted Time-Series with Switching Replications)
You will be assigned a specific type of experimentation you will create an experiment or quasi-experiment assessing deterrents to speeding. Use the provided word docs and PowerPoints to help with the experiment.
Base your experiment on the following hypothesis:
Hypothesis: Speeding will decrease in areas that have visible deterrents too speeding.
You will need to identify the following items:
-Population that will be studied: Driving areas (roads) in a town.
-Dependent and independent variable: Speeding and visible deterrents. (O = dependent variable – you need to tell me how you are measuring speeding. X = independent variable – you need to tell me what your stimulus is…what you will be using as a visible deterrent to get people to stop speeding.)
-The stimulus you will be utilizing. (X = )
-Your stated hypothesis (your proposition for what you think will happen).
-The time period in which your experiment will take place. (t = time for each measurement of O. For instance, if you are using speeding tickets to measure incidents of speeding, you might suggest that each t represents one week’s time. You might suggest that you would capture speeding data on four occasions – four “t”, so your experiment or quasi-experiment will last four weeks.)
-The results we should see IF your stimulus is effective.
-Diagram your experiment with all appropriate symbols – t, O, X, TG/CG, CG or CG… I would like for you to draw out your experimental/quasi-experimental design, just like I did in the examples in the PowerPoint. Also include a legend to indicate what your groups are (which roads), your time indicator (t), O and X.
