For this project you will go through the development and analysis process for a fictional company: Hullabaloo Party Supplies (HPS).
Hullabaloo Party Supplies (HPS) is a party supply provider and distributor with thirteen nationwide locations. Historically, the company has sold its supplies to third-party vendors for resale. The organization has recently decided to change its business practice, however, ending sales of its goods to those vendors. Instead, it is moving to a system that will allow consumers to order supplies directly from HPS, which will then ship directly to those consumers.
HPS management reviewed the system they have in place for vendor orders and have decided that they will not be able to leverage the existing system for the move to direct consumer ordering. As such they have hired you, a Systems Analyst, to help them design a new customer ordering system.
Management has met to determine the basic requirements for the system. The customers will visit an HPS online store, and will be presented with a shopping experience in which they can add items to a virtual shopping cart. When finished shopping, the customers will check out, at which time they will supply their information, indicate if they would like to create an account, choose their shipping option, and pay the bill.
The system will need to:
Allow the customer to order online; the customer must be able to order multiple different items, as well as choose different quantities
Obtain complete customer information
Allow the customer to create an account
Calculate order cost including tax
Offer payment via credit card or PayPal
Debit the ordered items from inventory
Offer multiple choices for shipping.
(Note: Once an order is complete the process will transition to the shipping system. Shipping system design is not part of option 1).
Your Portfolio Project will be completed in phases. For the final deliverable you will combine all of your work into one professional document you would be pleased with presenting to executives of the company.
Phase 1 (Due in Module 3)
Project Overview
Using the Project Proposal Template Download Project Proposal Templatefor the Portfolio Project provide an overview of the purpose of the project, the problem statement, goals and objectives, key assumptions, project stakeholders, high-level WBS for requirements gathering and potential risks.
Your proposal should be a minimum of 2 pages in length, not including title page. Should you use citations and references, they should adhere to APA7 format, including the references page. Visit the Writing Center for guidance on APA format: https://csuglobal.libguides.com/apa_resources
Phase 2 (Due in Module 5)
In this section of the proposal, you will provide the following:
Detailed requirements list
Data Flow Diagram
Feasibility analysis
Calculate the NPV
Calculate the return on investment.
Calculate the breakeven point.
Include a line chart to support your breakeven results (Figure 5-7)
Development methodology
For the feasibility analysis:
Assuming monetary benefits of customer ordering at $185,000 per year, one-time costs of $275,000, recurring costs of $85,000 per year, a discount rate of 12 percent, and a five-year time horizon. Use the provided Economic Feasibility Template Download Economic Feasibility Templateto complete the calculations.
Using the Project Proposal Template for the Portfolio Project, continue working on your project proposal.
This section of the proposal should be a minimum of 4 pages in length, not including title page. The previous sections should incorporate instructor feedback for Phase I. Should you use citations and references, they should adhere to APA7 format, including the references page. Visit the CSU Global Writing Center for guidance on APA format
Phase 3 (Due in Module 8)
Implementation plan
Testing and training plan
Conclusion/wrap-up
Final Deliverable: Complete Portfolio Project, including Phase 1, 2 and 3, submitted per project instructions. Note: The complete Portfolio Project should incorporate instructor feedback received on all phases of the portfolio milestone.
Your complete Portfolio Project, including Phases 1, 2 and 3, should be a minimum of 8 pages in length, not including the title and reference pages, and must fully address the assignment requirements. Include at least three credible references in addition to the course textbook. The project should follow the Portfolio Project template format, single-spaced paragraphs with double-spacing between paragraphs. Any figures, tables, citations and references should adhere to APA7 format. First person should not be used in this project, since you are presenting facts and information to support this project for the executive leadership team.
Option #2: Hullabaloo Party Supplies Shipping System
For this project you will go through the development and analysis process for a fictional company: Hullabaloo Party Supplies (HPS).
Hullabaloo Party Supplies (HPS) is a party supply provider and distributor with thirteen nationwide locations. Historically, the company has sold its supplies to third-party vendors for resale. The organization has recently decided to change its business practice, however, ending sales of its goods to those vendors. Instead, it is moving to a system that will allow consumers to order supplies directly from HPS, which will then ship directly to those consumers.
Management has decided it would benefit from a new shipping system that is independent of the customer ordering system. They want a system that can track a package’s location, report status to customers, and allow customers to initiate returns.
HPS management has reviewed the system currently in place for vendor shipping, and have decided that they will not be able to leverage the existing system for the move to direct consumer shipping. As such they have hired you, a Systems Analyst, to help them design a new customer product shipping system.
Management has met to determine the basic requirements for the system. The customers will be able to visit the HPS online store and view their order information. The system will show them how the package was shipped (express, priority, etc.), which shipping company is handling the order, where the package is currently located, and when delivery is expected. Additionally, once delivery confirmation has been received, the customer will be able to initiate a return, at which time a return label will be emailed to the customer.
The system will need to:
Allow import of the customers shipping information from the order system
Recognize multiple shipping companies
Recognize multiple shipping speeds (express, regular, 3 day, etc.)
Present a tracking number to the customer
Present tracking information
Allow the customer to request a return
E-mail the customer a return receipt.
Assume the following costs associated with the system:
