This research exercise and paper are intended to help prepare you for the final assignment for this course. It provides an opportunity to review how research is done and how different cultures affect families.
For this assignment, you will choose a cross cultural research article. Cross-cultural research articles are papers that focus on participants who are from different racial cultural backgrounds, has a methodology part, and has results and discussion sections. Please take note that the article is comparative; meaning it compares the samples or participants with culture as a factor.
Directions
Step 1: Using the country you chose for paper four, find a cross cultural study on a topic that interests you.
Step 2: Identify a scholarly, peer reviewed article on a cross cultural research topic that interests you.
Gen AI Option: For this assignment, you may use Claude.AI or another generative AI tool to begin your research and identify potential resources. Note: You may also opt not to use generative AI in this part of the process.

Once you’ve accessed ClaudeAI, you can use the tool to identify cross cultural research for the topic that interests you. Use only scholarly, peer-reviewed, research articles. Refine search chat as needed. See example.
• Be sure to find the article in the WMU libraries or online. You will need to share a link with me to the article you choose.
• Be sure to read the article to ensure that the AI tool is not “hallucinating” (If Claude is hallucinating an article may not exist or may not say what Claude says it does).
Generative AI Use Reminder: Remember, all chats and links must be saved and submitted with your finished paper. You will also need to include a short reflective paragraph about the process. In this paragraph, be sure to discuss: How and why you choose to use the tool? To what extent was the tool helpful to you in the completion of the assignment?
Step 3: Once you have read your chosen article, use it to answer the following nine (9) questions.
In answering the questions below, do not lift words or copy exactly the sentences in the article. PARAPHRASE or use your own words to summarize the ideas from the article.
For each numbered question or prompt, use paragraph format to respond, using full sentences with topic, support, and conclusion that demonstrates your understanding. Please use headings to refer to each section. For example: Aim of the study; Research Participants, Reference
Questions:
Reference or bibliographic entry of your selected article in APA (see example in the first assignment guidelines):
What are the aims and/or research questions of the study?
What concepts or ideas did the authors want to study? How were they defined in the study? Read through the literature background or the introduction part.
Describe the participants of the study. Since you are supposed to choose an article of a cross-cultural study on families, the participants for this study should have different cultural backgrounds. Make sure to be specific. What are these cultural backgrounds? What are the demographics of the participants?
What is the authors’ methodology? How did the authors collect their data? What are the measurements or research tools that they used?
What kind of analytical procedures did the authors use to answer the research questions or achieve the aims of the study? That is, once the data was collected, how did the author analyze it.
What are their general findings and conclusions?
After the findings and conclusions, what recommendations were made by the researchers?
Reflection: What did you learn from doing this assignment or from reading a comparative research paper?
