1.In your own words define oppression. 2.You are asked to identify each of your social identities as it relates to the course topics: race, class, nationality, religion, ability, age, gender, and sexual orientation. Please only disclose what you give full consent to. Indicate whether you believe each identity status is regarded by mainstream American society as socially dominant or marginalized (i.e., oppressed). You can arrange the listing of each in a table or infographic; 3. Through a critical analysis, select at least 1-2 intersectional identities you believe hold dominant power in society and 1-2 intersectional identities you believe have been marginalized (i.e., a total of 2-4 identities; you may or may not belong to the identity group you selected). Using these identities as the focus for this next section, discuss the origins of a prejudicial attitude or bias (positive or negative) that you currently hold toward these identity groups and how that has impacted your behavior toward them. The focus of this is on your own assumptions, personal values, and the context in which you formed these ideas. Be mindful of not just listing stereotypes. There are no right or wrong answers here. This is a personal exploration. Make sure to make a connection between your social identities and the role it plays in these attitudes and behaviors.
