Your task is to answer this question: What responsibility do we have, if any, to the people and places most affected by planetary migration?
The histories of globalization connect us to different people and places around the world. Our lives are entangled through interdependencies that stretch across space and time. The relative affluence and comfort experienced by many in the United States is dependent on uneven spatial relations of extraction and exploitation with deep historical legacies that often compound in the present. Planetary migration is affected today by climate change and contemporary globalization. Your task in this short paper is to take a position on global migration.
If you are unsure how to explain the ethics and/or politics of how you relate to other people and places, one approach is to think about the values and principles that you think should define collective behaviors, actions, and decisions. Additionally, or alternatively, you may want to focus on the consequences or outcomes of collective behaviors, actions, or decisions. One final approach to this assignment would be to examine what you think we owe—if anything—to the people and places most affected by different labor, climate, and involuntary migration.
