WRITING QUALITY: Writing should reflect full sentences, proper grammar, spelling

WRITING QUALITY:
Writing should reflect full sentences, proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization are required. Avoid writing as you would text (e.g., “u” in place of “you.”)
Student responses to discussion questions must be thorough and reflect an understanding of course material. Be organized in your thoughts and ideas. Incorporate correlations with the assigned readings or topics. Stay on topic. Avoid summarizing. Contribute to the learning environment with depth and with the goal of motivating discussion. Scientific discourse is based on evidence. Opinions are just that, but if used in a discussion, they must be informed opinions.
In your 3 original posts (answers to discussion questions), you should have two types of citations: in-text citation in your post and reference citation at the end of the post.
Cite the textbook, refer to concepts in the textbook, and/or include an outside source (e.g., link to relevant information/website) in your answers.  Cite textbook material and/or website information according to APA style both in-text and at the end of your post.
(EXAMPLE OF RESPONSE TO YOUR CLASSMATE’S POST) John Doe (i.e., your name)Response #1
Hi ____, I like what you said about you would bring in experiences speakers on different cultures if you were in a leadership position….I think it needs to be mandatory that all legitimate places of business include information on different diversities and cultures. I think that the more knowledgeable people are about their fellow humans would lead to a more efficient and comfortable work environment…… Do you think it should be mandatory for all places of business to inform their employees of different cultural and racial backgrounds?Make an effort to read your classmates’ posts. When responding to other classmates’  posts, write complete, insightful comments, just as you would for a discussion question. You must do more than say “I agree”, “You’re so right,” “I like it,” or “it’s cool” by making a thoughtful response to what your classmate has written.  You must engage the original post in some way. You may cite the textbook or include a link to relevant information/website in your responses. You may support, agree, politely disagree, etc. and explain why. Your post should add to the discussion.
Please use the reply button rather than starting a new topic/thread when replying to others.
Additionally, do not make insulting or inflammatory statements in the discussion board. Be respectful of others’ ideas. Philosophical differences exist and we can all agree to disagree in a professional manner. Be patient and read the postings of others thoroughly before posting your responses. Since learning takes place over time, the responses should not be made all at once, but spread out, in order to allow dialogue to develop. The aim is to encourage interaction among students and faculty, not simply to present information.
First student: In Chapter 1.1 of the textbook, I took the “Group Communication Competence Survey” and filled out my response to each question. Overall, my answers were relatively balanced with one ranked one, six ranked two, eleven ranked three, nine ranked four, and three ranked five. I honestly believe that this is about what I expected after I read through the questions, before I started answering them. The three items I labeled as extremely important were questions 1, 20, and 27. Question 1 stated: Reduce your nervousness when speaking in a discussion or group. I believe this is extremely important because often times when people get nervous, they tent to make mistakes or misspeak when delivering a message. Most people also lose the ability to think clearly and often forget key details. Question 20 said: Ask questions to clarify ideas and get needed information. I ranked this as a 5 because I would need 10 set of hands to count the number of miscommunications I have experienced by not clarifying what was said. This would probably rank as a 6 because of how important everyone being on the same page is. Inefficiency is probably my biggest pet peeve in a group environment. Question 27: Use effective technologies and skills to communicate in virtual teams. It should be self explanatory why this is ranked a number 5. Being able to use technology well is probably the most important thing within a virtual group because technology is how you communicate every single thing. I does not matter if it is an email, a zoom or facetime call, a chat room, or even just texting on your smart phone. Being able to communicate well virtually is the only way you will be able to get anything planned, organized, and completed in any sort of a decent time frame. Replying on time, texting properly, and communicating clearly no matter now many words it takes are some of the most important things to do within a virtual group. The only question I ranked as a one was question number 29: Provide appropriate emotional support to group members. I ranked this as one because it is not my responsibility to be your therapist within a professional group and I do not expect you to be mine. Outside affairs within your own life should not be brought into the group discussions for any reason unless your past experiences directly benefit the group’s common goal or the group is about your life’s affairs, such as a support group or something along the same lines. A group in a professional sense such as a board of executives, parent teacher organization, or even the neighborhood watch should not be affected by your at home struggles. I believe separation of home and work is very important as it allows our brains to focus on one thing at a time. For example, I prefer to do my schoolwork at the MTSU library instead of at my apartment where all my friends and videogames are. This allows effective separations and lets me efficiently complete any assignments I have due in a timely manner. Although this may make me seem heartless and unemotional, I am just adept at separating work and home. I feel like I ranked rather competently in my scale but I should probably work on changing my view toward certain things on the more personal and emotion side. Two areas that I want to learn more about are “correctly interpret and appropriately respond to members’ feelings” and “intervene appropriately to resolve member and group problems.” I feel like if I improved in these two areas, my group skills would increase based on my relations with my group members and their relations with each other
second student:
n Chapter 1, we can understand that group dialectics exist in a group regarding many different aspects of working together as a group, including goals, relationships, communication methods, and group norms. In a group I was with before, I can say that I had this group dialectics with them, the dialectic of task dimensions – social dimensions from what the book says in the textbook, this means “the responsibility and motivation to complete tasks are balanced with promoting member relationships” (Engleberg & Wynn, 2013, p. 14). We were so motivated and determined to finish the work and think of ways to improve it to make it better or any ideas of how to make it easy to explain, and we even spend some time getting to know each other, which helped us improve our work together. Therefore, there wasn’t any problem, but for us to keep this work going, we would meet and spend the first 10 minutes talking to each other and see how we were doing, and see if someone has problem or anything that will make them not do good work, then we would start talking about the presentation.Another group dialectics was Individual Goals – Group Goals, which means “Members’ personal goals are balanced with the group’s common goal.”, this one I had it with another group, and we were doing an English personation, and this group each had his own part to do. Still, their main goal was to get it right, so some of us were entering other members’ parts and checking them and helping them get it right and do it the best way they could. I wouldn’t say it was perfect, but it was an excellent group to work with. One problem with the group was meeting with them since each had a different schedule, but the solution was easy: the members who could meet when they were done for the day, and others could come later or meet at different times.
