Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), therefore I will be answering question number for this week’s discussion board, with an emphasis on CBT.
Similarities between the two theories.
REBT and CBT are related in a number of ways. Their central idea is that human emotions and behavior are primarily influenced by ideas, beliefs,
attitudes, and thinking, rather than by events themselves. As a result, changing one’s thinking results in emotional and behavioral changes.
General definitions:
1. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on changing dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by questioning and challenging negative or irrational beliefs. The overall goal of CBT is to teach people that while they cannot control every aspect of the world around them, they can take hey can take control of how they interpret and deal with things in their environment (Hofmann et al., 2012).
2. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a form of psychotherapy that is based on the concept emotions, behaviors, and thoughts continually interact with and influence another. The overall goal of REBT is to help patients develop a more positive outlook by restructuring the irrational thoughts and beliefs that they hold. (Ellis et al., 2007).
