What is the meaning of community?
Distinguish between place and non-place community.
Discuss the differences between community needs assessment and community asset mapping.
Using all resources available to you, census information, driving through community, agency information, key informants, etc., describe at least one problem (i.e., substance abuse, mental health, homelessness, senior’s isolation, family issues, etc,) in the field placement community.
Create a list of community assets to address the identified need & to show other strengths of the community. In other words, prepare an asset map. Group the assets in categories, i.e., (institutions, individuals, environment, technology, etc.) Assets can be people, places and things. View the PowerPoint in the community toolbox on asset mapping –chapter 3, section 8 for assistance. Create your own diagram or See a sample asset map here as well
Discuss the methods you used in identifying the community assets. Be sure to include at least one key informant from the community. Paper should be approximately 3pages
