This week you will finish up your research on either securing your own home network. The goal of this exercise is to begin doing research. As a security practitioner, this will be a daily task. You need to know which resources are good, and which resources are bad. You also need to document data flows, network topologies, etc. By the end of this assignment you should have some level of comfort on how to use the SMUMN library catalogs.
In designing your own home network remember to stick to your budget. This budget will drive whether you purchase new equipment or utilize some spare equipment and use open source software. Think about the need for a firewall, a forward proxy server, an IDS/IPS. Do you plan on integrating a wireless network? How do you plan on securing it? Do you plan on utilizing a mesh wireless network, or use multiple access points with different SSIDs or active channels? There is a lot to think about here.
Guidelines:
• Your assignment this week is to complete a reference list to be turned in.
• Also include any relevant diagrams (network topologies, data flow diagrams, etc).
o You might use Visio, Omnigraffle, LucidChart or even PowerPoint to create basic shapes (squares, circles, etc.) and make a diagram to be included in your rough and final drafts.
• Use APA format
• Include 8+ references that support your design, in APA format
