• The video on unintentional bias highlights microaggressions that people experience. Examine and discuss your understanding of microaggressions. (one paragraph).
• Critically analyze how the content of this video about microaggressions can translate to client-worker interactions. Give a short example of what you’ve discussed.
• Discuss the impact unconscious bias and microaggressions can have on the client-worker relationship within your own practice with others of differing cultural background, and how such might negatively shape interventions with a client.
• Reflect on any time you have either experienced microaggressions because of ethnic identity, gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity, age or other cultural category – or have unintentionally demonstrated microaggressive behavior towards another based on these concepts. (Remember that microaggressions are hostile, constant and not isolated incidents for recipients – if you identify as being a recipient, please remember that the term applies to long-term, on-going and unrelenting occurrences that people experience over a lifetime, NOT isolated incidences). This question requires self-awareness, depth of thought and transparency.
