Topic for post: Compare and contrast the benefits of non-profit versus for-profit healthcare organizations.
There are benefits for non-profit and for-profit healthcare organizations. Profits represent the distinction between total revenue and total cost (Lee, 2019). To maximize profits, one must identify the product (price or quantity) and characteristics that maximize profits (Lee, 2019). Healthcare administrators who lead healthcare companies who are for-profit, must ensure they understand the concept of profit. Furthermore, healthcare leaders must ensure they are capable of sufficiently applying their knowledge of the topic to the companies they lead. On the other hand, healthcare leaders should never place their organization’s profit over the quality of services they are capable of rendering to patients. Non-profit healthcare organizations serve individuals who may not have the income to receive medical treatment at for-profit hospitals. These types of organizations are beneficial because they provide medical services to those who may lack substantial resources.

For-profit healthcare organizations play a significant role in the healthcare sector. Hospitals serve as distinguished public health partners in U.S (United States). communities and make contributions to strengthen population health and improve economic standing (Cronin et al., 2021). Hospitals are classified as for-profit or non-profit healthcare organizations. For-profit hospitals are more likely to operate in vulnerable communities (Cronin et al., 2021). Individuals who reside in communities that experience challenges in receiving equitable healthcare deserve the right to receive affordable and quality care. Therefore, it is imperative that for-profit healthcare organizations continue to have the willingness to serve vulnerable communities.

Non-profit healthcare organizations also play a substantial role in the healthcare field. Non-profit hospitals’ community benefit programs are closely associated with health equity as they are planned to address the healthcare needs of the communities they serve, specifically those who are under served or marginalized (Park & Park, 2023). The above information indicates that non-profit hospitals contribute tremendously to the health wellness of individuals who reside in communities that don’t have the same resources as those communities that might be more progressive. Legislators and healthcare policy influencers should ensure they allocate to provide non-profit healthcare organizations with the necessary resources they need to keep their companies afloat. Without non-profit healthcare organizations, many people would be left without equitable healthcare. Non-profit healthcare companies keep the goals of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) alive. The ACA mission is to provide affordable and quality healthcare to all people and not a select few. ACA has been successful. Since the implementation of President Obama’s led ACA plan, a multitude of scholarly research has indicated the rate of uninsured Americans has reduced significantly. It is imperative for non-profit healthcare organizations to maintain a “service before profit attitude.”

There is a Biblical connection between non-profit and for-profit healthcare organizations. “Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water, I will take away sickness from among you (New International Version Bible, Exodus 23:25).” God has promised He will heal His children in times of pain. God requires that for-profit healthcare organizations maintain affordability of services for those in need. On the other hand, God requires His children to be generous and form non-profit healthcare organizations whose sole purpose is to provide medical services to their brothers and sisters who are less fortunate. To lead a healthcare organization, an individual must be a servant leader. For the believers who are chosen to be healthcare administrators, Go requires them to put the needs of their brothers and sisters, before their personal career goals. Individuals who experience medical challenges will have trust and hope their medical providers will give them the proper treatment to heal them. However, for God’s children they will pray to Him for everlasting healing. This is because believers understand God has the ultimate answer to all our prayers.
