#2.-When you observe animal life, usually the young are able to survive without the parent after a few days or weeks. What about us? Children who are neglected often have readily definable traits — when exposed to normal life they are hostile, angry, appear to be retarded, and sometimes die at an early age.
As we grow, hopefully, we are changing and maturing. Consider the ways in which we learn new behaviors. One of the ways in which learning occurs is through operant conditioning. Operant conditioning is learning in which behavior is altered by its consequences. For instance, when I was five years old, I thought I could make my bike fly. #3.-Throughout our country, we have agencies of socialization that mold and shape our character. This includes family, peers, school, work, media, and religion. First on the list would be family. Here we are learning the core values that will guide our lives, we learn right from wrong, and what is acceptable or normal behavior. There are those who would suggest that the media (TV, video games, MTV) have surpassed the family as the most important agency of socialization in our country(USA). What is your slant on this?
