Please submit your project on this page.
Attached is student examples and the instructions for the project thanks.
Click the image below to download and read the assignment instructions. Also, please review the rubric below before submitting your assignment. ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: The instructions state that “you are responsible for no less than five (5) student-constructed images of your chosen icon using any combination of photography, physical collage, and digital collage you choose.” Collages are comprised of multiple pictures — not just one picture. This assignment requires five pieces of collage, NOT five images to create one collage (like the image pictured below.) Also, do NOT use software that auto-constructs a collage. That’s not your own work! It’s the work of an algorithm and it will result in a zero for the assignment. Finally, there are a bunch of online meme generators out there that simply add text to an image. Such images will not receive points, as they are not collage. If you have questions about these guidelines, let me know.

NOTICE THAT THE STUDENT EXAMPLE HAS FIVE DIFFERENT PIECES OF COLLAGE — YOU ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT FIVE DIFFERENT IMAGE FILES, NOT ONE IMAGE COMPRISED OF FIVE IMAGES!

Criteria Ratings Pts
This criterion is linked to a Learning OutcomeImages
* At least five (5) different images (e.g. student-created collages) are included. * Images are created by the student and not simply original images of an icon; they are in some way modified by the student. *Images are presented clearly.
4 pts
This criterion is linked to a Learning OutcomeCritical Engagement
Images created by the student are in some way critically engaged. The collaged images re-define the way the original icon is normally seen by the viewer in order to say something different than the original. Student’s approach avoids repetition of ideas and demonstrates critical reflection.

Images are properly embedded in a Word doc or PDF and submitted to Canvas.

Also, notice that there is no written portion of the assignment to explain what the pictures
mean. However, it should be approached as an academic document meant to investigate,
research and ultimately take a position about the subject matter contained therein. You are
literally “theorizing” about your chosen icon using visual language.
You are responsible for no less than five (5) student-constructed images of your chosen icon
using any combination of photography, physical collage, and digital collage you choose. If
you find a meme of your icon on the Internet, you cannot simply use it in its original state.
That’s visual plagarism! YOU have to modify it in some way in order to say something about the
subject. No physical collage work can be submitted by hand. Instead it can be scanned or
photographed for submission. Remember that you will not be graded on the quality of your
artwork, rather on the ideas behind your images as discussed above. In other words, this is not
a craft project pasting a whole bunch of pictures of an actor or musician on five pages of
construction paper like a fanboy or fangirl does! Follow the rubric to ensure you create the
right kind of project!
The pictures should be embedded in a word document or PDF. Please review the rubric in the
assignment submission page before you submit to ensure that you have completed all aspects
of the project!
