Overview
In this course the journal will be used for reflection. Journal activities in this course are private between you and the instructor.
In Module One, you chose a public health issue to focus on for your final project. In this journal, you will gather resources for your final project. You will then receive feedback on the appropriateness and quality of the sources you have identified.
Prompt
First, to reference as samples of resources you might find, review these two articles: DigitalConnectednessintheFraminghamHeartStudy and Design and Implementation of a Home-Based Exercise Program Post-Hip Fracture: The Baltimore Hip Studies Experience. Review also the resources in the Public Health and Epidemiology library guide. In your journal assignment, address the following:
Sources/Format: Using the brainstorming work you completed in Module One, research and gather 3–5 scholarly sources for the literature review component of your final project. Evaluate each source for timeliness, relevance, and epidemiological application to your age-related illness or condition (topic). Organize these sources in American Psychological Association (APA) format.
Source Summary: Using only one of the sources you have identified, provide a brief 2–3 sentence narrative and/or bullet-point summary of the source.
This activity will supplement the work you will be required to complete for Milestone Two during Module Three next week.
Before you begin! Tips for Locating Resources:
Set aside an hour or two each day for about 2–3 days. You will want to revisit your search a couple of times before you finalize your list. This will also give you time to think.
A scholarly resource is one that is backed by a study or research. In order to find these types of resources, try searching through the ShapiroLibrary and GoogleScholar.
Try searching for key phrases such as “[topic] epidemiology”, “demographics of [topic]”, or “determinants of [topic].” This is by no means an exhaustive list. Consider the Final Project Milestone One Guidelines and Rubric document as you search.
Read the abstracts where available, or look at the conclusion section to see if the resource meets your needs. If it does, read the rest of the paper.
What to Submit
Submit assignment as a Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins.
