Introduction
For this exercise, you will have the opportunity to assess how identity characterization could influence community norms. Someone’s identity characterization, whether it is their gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and religion, can have a profound impact on norms within a community. It can alter them, in a positive or negative way, depending upon how society perceives them. You will look further into these identity characterizations to identify some potential outcomes based on what you experience in your community and have found in the literature.

Based on what you have experienced in your community and have found in your research, address the questions below. To begin, please watch Beyond Sex: A talk about gender identity in society (12:03) and review The Social Self: The Role of the Social Situation and conduct some additional outside research on this topic using the Tiffin University Pfeiffer Library (custom DEC300 page).

Complete the influence on community norms column for each of the listed identity characteristics by discussing in detail (approximately 200 words for each) two or three different influences on community norms you have witnessed in your community or have found in your research.
In the template, you will notice three additional blank rows. Provide at least one additional identity characteristic and corresponding influence on community norms you believe applies to this assignment based on what you see in your community and have found in your research.
