between low income and health outcomes? What is the evidence that adverse childhood
experiences predict Borderline personality disorder in women? What types of theories on
cultural adaptations of CBT interventions for depression have been effective for Latinos?
3. Develop a specific set of inclusion criteria for the investigation of the literature that
Identifies clear definitions for what you are looking to find any factors which exclude literature from inclusion in your review.
4. Identify your key search strategy including terms and planned electronic data bases.
5. It is recommended that you visit with a librarian to improve search terms and strategy.
Use your planned search strategy to look for relevant articles. You may need to limit years or narrow your search. Screen articles and select the resources for review.
7. Identify additional sources of information from current articles (e.g. references) and other
sources (e.g. websites, reports and other grey literature).
Identify and interview one or two experts on your topic area and ask them about your
timeliness and relevance of your questions. Also seek information about any additional studies or resources that you did not discover in your literature search.
9. After reading each article you will summarize each within a table which will include abbreviated responses to the following:
Citation
Arguments
Primary Contributors
Related SW Ethics/Values/Practice
Write up the literature and the findings in a paper that should not exceed 8-9 pages (Including Abstract & References)
Use the following to guide your literature review:
1.Who are the main contributors to this theory and why and how did they develop the theory?
2.What disciplines and dominant discourses have created and supported the development of the theory?
3.What epistemologies (underlying beliefs) guide the theory?
4.What ethics and values does the theory purport and how does that relate to social justice and the values of the social work profession?
5.How is the theory being used in social work practice?
6.What is the evidence for the effectiveness of social work practices that are supported by the theory?
7.Be sure and include a critical analysis of what you have discovered. What are the practical implications of your selected theory?
8.Summarize and discuss how the theory might frame your understanding of practice.
9.In conclusion, summarize possible uses of your selected theory to guide a project or intervention to address issues in the community or population selected for semester.
