Water and Soil Conservation Projects Instructions
Instructions:Please pick a topic for your project by due date and submit under Assignments – Project Topic (due on July 17th 2023)
Each student will develop a powerpoint presentation (8 – 12 minutes long) on a topic related to Water or Soil Conservation. Examples: water trading, restoration projects, green roof, rain garden, water harvesting, desalination, wastewater treatments, digital farming, hydroponic farming, cover crops, crop rotation, erosion mitigation, updates on topics from “When Rivers Run Dry”…. or your own ideas (any topics that are relevant to water and soil conservation)!!
This powerpoint presentation will be saved as a pdf file and uploaded to VoiceThread. You will then record your presentation for each slide through VoiceThread and share them through your VoiceThread link (see instruction created by Masa here: Create and Share Presentation in VoiceThread). VoiceThread is a cloud based web application that allows users to post media such as a document, slide show, video, or photo collection that can be commented on by a community. Comments can be made by microphone, webcam, text, audio file or telephone.
VoiceThread presentation should be created in VoiceThread and shared with SWS4233 Summer 2023 group by July 31st 2023. You are also asked to provide a link to your presentation under assignment “Create and Share Presentation” by July 31st 2023. Make sure you have allowed viewing by others and commenting. After sharing your presentation, you will be required to watch your fellow classmates’ presentations (8 presentations) and add comments/questions to each. You will also be expected to check your own presentation and answer questions/comments posted to you.
Grading Scheme:
This project counts for 20% of your grade.
Grading will be based on (out of 100 points):
Topic submitted by due date (July 17th) 5
Presentation posted to class group page and also link sent to me by due date (July 31st) 10
Narrated Powerpoint/VoiceThread Presentation 35
(Presentation will be graded for contents, organization, professionalism of speaker, etc.)
Questions/comments posted to eight student presentations (August 2nd) 15
Responses to fellow student questions/comments (August 4th) 10
Project report – 2 page (single space) or 3 page (double space) summary of project (August 4th) 20
References: Works Cited page (cited in both presentation and paper) (August 4th) 5
Each student MUST submit an individual paper/report (Project Report): The report includes background of topic, significance, explanation of problem, proposed solutions/activities/technologies, methods/mechanisms, and the outcome/effectiveness, etc.
